Bracing is not necessary for all children. For children who have mild curves, their doctor can monitor the situation. If the curve does not get worse or cause pain, nothing needs to be done.
For children who have larger curves, but not the most severe, their doctor might recommend wearing a back brace while they grow. Wearing the brace most of the day can usually keep the curve from getting worse, and often makes it smaller while you’re wearing the brace. Wearing a brace regularly can help reduce the chances that a child will need scoliosis surgery.
