Arthroscopic Hip Surgery in Richmond- 2015 Update

We began the arthroscopic hip surgery program at Johnston-Willis Hospital in 2010. At the time, there was little interest or recognition in the Richmond region about the nature of non-arthritic hip pain. In our first year, we performed 12 arthroscopic hip surgeries. In 2015, that number had grown to nearly 150, far and away the most in Central Virginia. Read more

Recently, I had the privilege to participate in an outstanding endeavor. I received a call from Dr Michael Christie in early April of this year requesting that I join him and his team in Mexico. Dr Christie was the director of my joint replacement fellowship in Nashville, TN (Southern Joint Replacement Institute). The project that he and others began is the Walk Strong Foundation. Read more

Experiences with Anterior Total Hip Replacement

Wow…..it’s been nearly a year since we began performing anterior hip replacements at Johnston-Willis Hospital. I made a commitment to this new technique in an attempt to shorten the recovery period for patients after hip replacement. The hospital has also made a significant commitment by purchasing a dedicated Hana Table (specifically designed for anterior total hip replacement). We have also developed a dedicated team in the operating room which dramatically improves patient outcomes. So, now with much more experience what have I seen and what conclusions can we make?
